Well, at least one of us is finally here! I made the long drive to Colorado last weekend. I decided to get a short term rental for a couple months so that I could get out here and get acclimated. Mom and Tara will follow in due time.
In the near term, Tara is making a house hunting visit next weekend so I was planning to spend my Sunday with a list of eleven houses that we had targeted as potential homes. I wanted to drive by the homes, get a feel for the neighborhoods, determine how far the homes are from work, etc.
The weather forecast was for a cold, yet nice day.
Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and it was snowing out! Having spent 21 years in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I wasn’t exactly worried about snow – but it has been a long time since I’ve driven in the white stuff. I could have curled up on the couch with my laptop (or a book) but I decided to venture out.

As I drove around, I wanted to take some photos. Shooting in snow is interesting and difficult at the same time. It’s interesting for me because I haven’t been in snow in 20 years. The difficulty of shooting snow is trying to get the exposure correct. The camera exposes for 18% gray. When the camera see’s a sheet of white, it wants to turn it gray. Snow isn’t gray. I think I did OK on the photos for my first attempt and I also managed to narrow down our list of potential homes. Tara and the realtor will go preview the homes on Friday narrow the list down further. We will re-visit the top homes on Saturday and who knows – we may be writing an offer if we find something that serves our needs!
Here are some more photos I shot today:

I had to copy this in my “snow” pics reference folder. I may just do a watercolor of this and call it something really creative like, pine cone in the snow!
